“The big sleep, kick the bucket, off to a better place”, we as a society try to dissociate ourselves and even disillusion ourselves from the fact that we are all eventually going to die. Death is not something that we must fear but embrace. There is no magic potion which is going to make us live forever. For this reason we must talk openly about our deaths, when this topic is often brought up it is pushed to the wayside for a later day. When should we want to talk about it, when were on our death bed waiting to die? The answer to this difficult question is NOW! We must talk about it now since it leads to our needing to talk about our rights as human beings. We should have the right to decide if we believe euthanasia or assisted suicide is an option that one could take. The idea of euthanasia or assisted suicide is a touchy subject for most people because they have reservations as to who, when, where and under what conditions. We must now decide if euthanasia and assisted suicide is morally sound and if we accept these ideas. Some prominent arguments set forward about euthanasia and assisted suicide is that they are killing and letting the person die. We must then ask ourselves is there a moral difference between killing and letting die and the answer in no. There is no moral difference between euthanasia and assisted suicide. Continue reading →

However, it is a field of psychology not highly regarded in western societies as an extremely important aspect of psychoanalysis or the entire field itself. Dream interpretation first entered into psychology with Freud’s masterpiece The Interpretation of Dreams in 1899. The book received prompt, respectful, and widespread attention and signified the immergence of a new aspect of psychology. Another character who contributed enormously to this field was Carl G. Summary
Jacks Valley Training Complex (JVTC) is a unique facility that covers 2,000 acres of United States Air Force Academy land, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. JVTC has several training courses that include an Obstacle Course, Leadership Reaction Course, Confidence Course, Assault Course, and Self Aide and Buddy Care area. These courses are used year round by over 76 military and civilian organizations for munitions training, expanding leadership skills, promoting teamwork opportunities and building confidence. Jacks Valley Training Complex is also home of the Global Engagement summer program. The cadets stationed at the Air Force Academy learn Air Force Expeditionary Force (AFE) training concepts through this program. The AEF training includes a mini airstrip for the cadets to practice parachuting.

Over 1,200 customers a year utilize this training facility and annually this number is growing. This massive influx of new customers is causing concerns with the scheduling process. Sigmund Freud is regarded as one of the greatest minds of the 19th and 20th centuries. He revolutionized our ideas on how the human mind works. Freud began the discipline of Psychoanalysis, which is still associated with his name (1). Freud’s influence, although contained during his early years, spread at the start of the 20th century, and most people in western society view human behaviour at least partially in Freudian terms (2). Although some of his ideas were met with abhorrence (3) and disagreement, it is safe to say that Freud is the most important and influential psychiatrist and cultural philosopher (4) of the last 150 years.

Introduction
Since the media are a main source of information, education and entertainment in our everyday lives, people are incessantly exposed to a number of messages from various media sources. It will became clear that discussion of the media was usually expressed in terms of whether and how the media could influence media audiences or have specific effects on publics. Same issues and concerns of media effects recur as each new media arrives. Although some communication researches have found and theorized this phenomenon, there is no consensus of view about the nature and the size of media effects. (McQuail, 1994)

Mainstream media researchers tend to assume that powerful media messages act directly on media audience, which is passive and powerless- the so called “hypodermic” model of effects. This approach has often been challenged, most recently by the theory of the “active” audience, which arguing that audiences use media messages to satisfy various individual needs and produce meaning according to their own already established beliefs. “Woe to that child which when kissed on the forehead tastes salty. He is bewitched and soon must die.” This adage from northern European folklore is an early reference to the common genetic disease recognized today as CF (Cystic Fibrosis). As the saying implies, the disorder once routinely killed children in infancy and is often identifiable by excessive salt in sweat (Kennedy Plourde, “History of CF”). The goal of this dissertation is to inform people of the history and symptoms of this disease, cystic fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis is a generalized disorder that affects the mucus-secreting glands of the body as well as the external secreting (eccrine) sweat glands, with the production of lesions in various organs, especially the lungs, liver, and pancreas. “It is primarily a disease of infants and children, with males and females affected in equal numbers.” Because of improvements in medical treatment, many patients survive into their 20’s and 30’s (Shwachman, 613). Most individuals are diagnosed by the age of three, however, nearly eight percent of all newly diagnosed cases are 18 or older. According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF), one of every 3,300 newborns will be diagnosed with CF and 1,000 new cases are diagnosed each year, generally by age three.   Continue reading →

War cannot happen without proper tools such as weapons. Even in the most ancient days of civilization, men utilized something else other than their bare hands to engage in band brawls-wood, stones, etc. As civilization developed quickly, weapons technology did not fall behind; various lethal arms came into existence. When the sharp swords were not enough, gunpowder blew up the weaponry industry. When the handgun and rifles were neither quick nor massive enough, machine guns and tanks were built. It appears that there would not be an end to the development of new arms technology. Finally, in the mid twentieth century, an extremely deadly innovation was born into the arms industry-the atomic bomb. This opened the gates to a whole new world of weaponry and warfare. This is a dissertation chapter on Organizational Behavior:

The key issues associated with organizational behavior include power, empowerment, organizational politics, and communication. Each of these things has a great impact on organizational behavior and the general way businesses operate today. Specific observations and experiences within my organization, have given me perspectives and ideas relating to these areas.

First, power is divided and split into organizational and personal types of power. Within organizational power is reward, coercive, and legitimate power. Managers often use rewards to demonstrate power. If the reward is deserved and sincere, this can be effective; however, if the rewards are being falsely given, this may be detrimental to the relationship. Coercive power, used to deny or threaten something of worth, does not earn respect. While having something to work for is an effective and motivating tool, an employee who is threatened to lose something or not receive something, will only have feelings of resentment and distrust toward a manager. Legitimate power, similar to coercive, involves the manager using his or her position to influence and control situations. I have recently been in a situation where my manager reminded me repeatedly that she could refuse my request to post for job transfer. Using this as a threat, she clung to this power in her position.

Second, personal power involves three further bases: expert, rational, and referent. As they say, knowledge is power; what a true statement. Having worked in a training position, I had to be an ‘expert’ on all policies and procedures. Some managers were threatened by this knowledge because they did not have the same level of understanding and expertise. Eventually a pattern developed of subordinates preferring to ask trainers questions instead of managers. This situation caused severe tensions between management and the training department. 1. INTRODUCTION
Organisations cannot compete solely on past record of success in today’s rapidly changing business environment that is characterised by boundary blurring, disintermediation and hyper competition. To move ahead of these rivals they need to seek innovation constantly at every level of activities. IBM as defined the e-business as the transformation of key business process to the use of internet technologies (Schneider and Perry 2001). Wall paint stripper, ant poison, toilet cleaner, lighter fluid, car exhaust gas, insecticide, NASA fuel, mothballs, insecticide/weed killer, PVC pipes added to 4000 other chemicals. Better known as Acetone, Arsenic, Ammonia, Butane, Carbon Monoxide, DDT, Methanol, Naphthalene, Nicotine and finally vinyl chloride. Also known as the components of the modern day cigarette.

The constituents of a cigarette are far from appealing, yet 11.1 billion people have taken to smoking worldwide. The cigarette trade is a billion pound commerce, enticing 52.45% of high school students each year. Youths remain the prime consumers of the cigarette industry. As cigarettes become more commercial the effects are emphasised more, especially to students. Yet 3.5 million deaths, worldwide, each year, occur due to smoking. This figure is significantly high, considering the fact that over 70% of smokers are trying to quit. Sales in cigarette purchase are far from declining but accelerating each year. The question remains, ‘What prevents individuals from discarding an unwanted habit such as smoking?’ Continue reading →
