Dissertation on Intelligence

Posted at: May 28, 2010 under: Sample Dissertations by admin @ 8:24 am

This is an example dissertation chapter on Intelligence:
Intelligence is a word that describes the ability of an individual to perform desired tasks well. Over the years many people have come up with their own idea of what intelligence is, based on what they feel is important. It has been a trend in the past for people to think that intelligence is correlated to academic achievement. That is, the ability to perform well at linguistics, mathematics, logics and other school-based forms of intelligence as discussed in class.

Recently there has been a switch to try to include a wider range of things in the definition of intelligence, such as problem solving skills, abstract reasoning, adaptability to the environment, mental processing speed, creativity, motivation, goal-directed behavior, sensory acuity, and the ability to acquire knowledge as well as many other things as discussed in class. People have begun to believe that intelligence takes different forms depending on the requirements of the environment and the culture that you live and are raised in as discussed in class. As a result it has been difficult to develop a clear-cut definition of intelligence that will suit everyone’s beliefs. (more…)

Dissertation on Gangs

Posted at: May 26, 2010 under: Sample Dissertations by admin @ 6:02 am

This is a sample dissertation chapter (example) on Asian Gangs:
All throughout the cities of America the urban population has experienced gang activity and gang violence. This is nothing new. The existence of street gangs in this country has existed for many generations. Gangs have been around since the 1950s and early 1960s. Gangs are a loosely organized group of three or more people who interact together for a common purpose and usually participate in some kind of illegal activity, whether it be violent crimes or drug dealing or both. In the United States in the past years it has been African-American gangs that seem to get much of the media attention. Gangs like the Crips and the Bloods get much notice and are often glorified in rap songs. Hispanic gangs also get a large amount of publicity. The movie “Colors” with Robert Duval and Sean Penn was a big hit in the 80′s. However, in the past years the prevalence of Asian gangs has increased (Kodluboy, 1996). Communities and law enforcement as well as most parents would obviously like to see an end to gangs and illegal gang activities. However in order to do that many things need to be understood. Mainly why do youths join gangs? How do they recruit new members and from where? Also, what activities or crimes do they participate in? The answers to these questions differ for different ethnic gangs. Therefore, the methods used to stop gang proliferation will more than likely differ depending on whether the gang is Asian, Hispanic, White or African-American. This dissertation will address some of the reasons for the existence of Asian gangs as well as contrast some of the many differences between Asian and other ethnic gangs. (more…)

Dissertation on Marriage

Posted at: May 18, 2010 under: Sample Dissertations by admin @ 6:09 am

This is an extract from dissertation on marriage:
One might ask themselves what the conditions of a good marriage are. The answer to this question depends on whether the person is looking at it from a secular or religious perspective. Those looking at it from the secular view would say that a good marriage is made up of love, trust, honesty, understanding, etc. but from the religious perspective there is an added element. This element is faith, whether it is put in God, Allah, Buddha or another deity. But it can be said that both the religious and secular views have something in common when it comes to the conditions of a good marriage: they believe that marriage is a commitment between two individuals in an intimate relationship who promise to care for each others human needs. Depression Dissertation

This is example dissertation chapter on Depression:
Many people, especially young people today believes that they are going through many series of depression although they can not really identify what depression is. A lot of people say that depression is a temporary feeling of sadness. So many people these days say, “I’m depressed,” easily during a conversation when they feel sad. Feeling sad is normal for everyone since people can go through events in life that dissatisfies them. However, feeling blue does not mean you are actually suffering from depression. These days, many people who aren’t aware of depressions result, pay less attention to it. However, depression is actually a disease just like cancer. Many people believe disease is a condition that occurred from virus, germs or by being a host for parasites. However, the real definition for disease in current days dictionary is “a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning: sickness, malady” “Webster Online”. Depression is a disease that affects in both physical ways and mental ways. In physical terms, a person can suffer insomnia, oversleeping, fatigue and many others symptoms, and in mental ways, the person can feel guilt, constant sadness, many mistakes, slowed mind, and depending on how the patient reacts to these symptoms, it can also affect social part of health. Even though depression is a dangerous, many people who aren’t aware of its symptoms, often ignore and care less serious about it. However depression have to be taken seriously since it can even lead someone to death. (more…)

Dissertation on Terrorism

Posted at: May 14, 2010 under: Sample Dissertations by admin @ 8:37 am

This is a sample dissertation chapter on terrorism:
We are all unaware of one thing or another during one point in our lives. Like when we were toddlers, looking a pot of water, boiling over the stove. We are unaware the pot is extremely hot. Our curiosity takes over us. We are compelled to touch the unique bubbles coming from the pot. We touch it, and it hurts. It hurts a lot. What lesson did we learn here? Not to touch a boiling pot of water. How did we learn this? Through experimentation and, trial and error. By taking one step back, feeling the pain of burning skin, we take two steps forward, by being aware that the boiling pot is very hot and never touch it again. This scenario relates to the tragic occurrences endured by the world on September 11, 2001. Now, approximately one month later, military action is necessary to win the battle against terrorism and secure the lives of present and future citizens of the world. Military action will not only help prevent further incidents from occurring, but also aid the controversial government situation in Afghanistan and a save countless numbers of lives. (more…)

Research Proposal on Child Labor

Posted at: May 7, 2010 under: Sample Research Proposals by admin @ 8:59 am

This is a research proposal example on Child Labor:
In America’s history we have had many problems with child labor. That is why “in 1938, President Franklin Roosevelt passed the Fair Labor Standards Act” (World Book 455). Child labor laws has helped the children in America greatly by not having to work long hours, having a minimum wage, and the worker must be at least 16 years of age before they can work. However, Child labor is still a problem in other undeveloped countries now.

We have child labor laws because, “from the mid 1800s to the early part of this century, many young children were employed in what we now call “sweatshop conditions” (Russell Freedman 93) . These children spent many hours working hard at dangerous jobs instead of going to school and getting a good education. Many factories and other firms hired children because they could be paid less than adults and get away with it. Furthermore, the children were overworked and underpaid, often working 16 hours a day, six days a week, and earning only pennies an hour. Kids often were also injured or killed while working under these brutal conditions. (more…)
