Islam and Christianity Dissertation

Posted at: May 28, 2009 under: Sample Dissertations by admin @ 5:18 am

Christianity and Islam are two religions that are still widely practiced today all over the world. These religions are similar in many ways, such as the way they spread and the difficulties they faced in the very beginning of their existence. Although they are similar in some ways they are extremely different in others and throughout this paper I will speak of them both and the many resemblances and differences between the two.

The religion of Christianity began with its founder, Jesus of Nazareth. Although he was believed to be born in 1 B.C.E., it has been later proven that it was probably four years earlier. Jesus began a three year mission to teach people about love for their neighbors and to avoid sin. He spoke of the kingdom of heaven and how good deeds and love will bring those good citizens closer to this kingdom. On this mission Jesus was reported of performing many miracles such as walking on water, healing the sick, and casting out demons. The spread of Christianity would have not been accomplished without the help of the twelve apostles, who also traveled from village to village spreading the preaching’s of Jesus. Jesus’ preached of a spiritual not an earthy kingdom, and this brought many problems. Many people turned against him when they saw that he was not going to start a campaign against the Romans. This caused Jesus to have many enemies including, money makers, Pharisees, people who felt he was disrupting the status quo, and some who just saw him as a blasphemer of Yahweh. (more…)

Advertising Dissertation

Posted at: under: Sample Dissertations by admin @ 5:07 am

This is a dissertaton chapter on Advertising:

There are numerous ways through which people are persuaded to buy their necessities or even luxuries. It is especially through these persuasive actions of the marketers, publicists and producers that advertising “an active strategy of selling and marketing” (P. Falk 1997:65 in Buy this Book) became the means of selling the products. However, since humans are complex beings having many different habits and patterns, it is of utmost importance that these patterns and habits are identified and understood for efficient advertising. Thus, it is through the Manchester model that in this essay I will attempt to argue some aspects of advertising, which does not only revolve around simple TV ads but also draws from production through to reception. I will also argue that advertising does encounter difficulties that I will review as its criticisms. I therefore will not be using the Hypodermic Syringe or Two Step-Flow model to analyze advertising.

Paul Taylor et al writes “advertising agencies normally prefer a market research classification which groups people along occupational lines which reflect consumption patterns, spending power and life styles”. (P. Taylor et al 1995:31). In other words producers and advertisers are not simply producing for everyone but for different segments of people within the audience. (more…)

Sociology Dissertation

This is a dissertation chapter on Sociology:

The Study of Social Life
Sociology is the systematic, study of human society. A lot of people think that they know everything about social behavior because it is around us everyday. Sociologists have unique ways of looking at human behavior and special tools for studying them.

More Than Common Sense
Most people think that sociology is a way to discover what everyone already knows, they believe that it is common sense. Some of ideas and beliefs obtained from common sense have been proven false from facts of sociological research, but some validate what we already know. Sociology can tell us which popular beliefs are true and which are false. It also helps reduce the confusion that comes from common sense. You possibly have heard that “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” From sociological research we can conclude that the effect of a person’s absence on another depends on the strength of the relationship. Anthropology Dissertation

Posted at: May 20, 2009 under: Sample Dissertations by admin @ 10:25 am

This is a chapter of dissertation on Anthropology:

Anthropology has been accused of shoring up the colonial endeavour. How would you support or refute this?

In order to answer this question it is firstly necessary to highlight the issues surrounding the colonial endeavour. We will firstly examine colonialism of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in the context of anthropological development. To illustrate the impact of this we will focus on the African empire and demonstrate the influence of ethnography by giving an example of one particular anthropologist’s input and comments on his project. Finally, drawing on a conclusion there will be an examination of the relationship between anthropology and colonialism aiming to show that the discipline needed colonialism perhaps more than the colonial government would like to admit they needed anthropology.

There is much controversy surrounding anthropology’s relationship to the colonial endeavour and some theorists have argued that European colonial projects provided the impetus for the discipline to grow and develop. The question as to whether anthropology is responsible for shoring up colonialism needs to be addressed and explained, however, firstly it is necessary to give a brief outline of the terms “imperialism” and “colonialism”. Shakespeare Dissertation

Posted at: May 19, 2009 under: Sample Dissertations by admin @ 3:27 am

This is a dissertation chapter on Shakespeare:

Abstract
What comprises genius is usually recognizable, if not always quantifiable. With Shakespeare, it is both recognizable and quantifiable. This paper will outline his known talent, but attempt to give a different picture of the man than is taught or widely known. While the Shakespeare that is traditionally taught is one dimensional, the lesser-known person was multi-faceted and once knowing his story, all of Shakespeare’s works take on a richer hue.

The Genius of Shakespeare
William Shakespeare, the greatest English poet, dramatist, storyteller extraordinaire of all time has transcended the moment in which he lived, and continues to touch art, literature, and our lives today. John Dryden, the celebrated English poet said that Shakespeare was “the man who of all modern and perhaps ancient poets had the largest and most comprehensive soul.” (more…)

Criminology Dissertation

Posted at: May 18, 2009 under: Sample Dissertations by admin @ 4:46 am

This is a dissertation chapter on Criminology:

Ever since criminology was established it has sought to answer as to why some people choose to commit crime. Cessare Lombrosso (1835-1901) “has been called the father of modern criminology” (Williams p141) known as the first phrenologist, he believed that people were ‘born’ criminals and destined to a life of crime. Primarily Lombrosso believed that a person’s physical appearance and make up were what determined a person’s potential criminality, for example “enlarged jaw and cheek bones” (Williams p142). Today we know that every possible theory as to why some choose to live a life of crime has been investigated, and the answer is simple, there will always be reasons such as poverty and drugs, but what about those who simply just choose crime as a way of life, they always have and probably always will.

Finding out what causes crime is futile (pointless, not worthwhile etc.) as people are always going to commit crime, therefore those in control; the Government and the Police, shouldn’t concentrate one hundred per cent on trying to find the causes of crime but should concentrate on and investigate more effective ways to control and prevent crime. “It is better to prevent crimes than to punish them” (Beccaria p11 in Muncie et al). Tourism Dissertation

Posted at: under: Sample Dissertations by admin @ 4:38 am

This is a dissertation chapter on Tourism:

Tourism is undoubtedly the single largest industry in the world and contributes vast amounts of revenue into any given country. In New Zealand alone, tourism accounted for 10.2% of Gross Domestic Product in 1996 or in dollar terms $11.78 billion (Collier, 1999). In 1999, half a billion people traveled worldwide which indicates the huge scale of the tourism industry. And the speed of tourism growth is also outstanding - airplane numbers have increased thirty times since 1960 and in the last fifteen years the number has doubled. And the amount of international tourists is also increasing rapidly. In 1939 there were only one million tourists worldwide whereas in 1999 there were more than one million international tourists from New Zealand alone (Otago University Resource, 2001).

After understanding how large the tourism industry is and the speed it is growing at, it is necessary to then learn about the associated impacts from tourism. The impacts are divided into three categories: economic, socio-cultural and environmental and each impact can create either a positive or negative outcome. Obviously the most important impacts that need to be dealt with are the negative ones. (more…)

Business Research Proposal

Posted at: May 13, 2009 under: Sample Research Proposals by admin @ 7:07 am

This is a sample research proposal on Business:

Part 1: Background
The Business environment consists of a microenvironment and macro-environment. The microenvironment comprises the forces close to company and affect its ability to serve the customers, such as suppliers, competitors, labour market, financial institutions, and etc. The macro-environment “can provide and overall picture of the variety of forces at work around an organization”, they conclude political, economic, social-culture, technological, and legal influences (PESTEL)( Johnson and Scholes, 2002, 134). Those forces affect a wide variety business and influence not only local and national sources but also from international development.

Actually, microenvironment and macro-environment become intertwined and have repercussion each other. For example, IT development converted the whole society greatly, not only the type of doing business has been changed dramatically, but approaches of management within the business in every level have been more different comparison with traditional ways. Moreover, the change provides more business opportunities, in the same time, it is inevitable to follow more threats in the business. So it is vital importance to realise the complex business environment and cope with all sort of challenges in order to satisfy the customers and maintain businesses successfully. (more…)

Dissertation on Karl Marx

Posted at: under: Sample Dissertations by admin @ 6:53 am

This is a dissertation chapter on Karl Marx:

Throughout the writings of Karl Marx he spoke of society moving towards communism. Communism to Marx is an economic and social system where we have a life of freedom and everybody in society is equal. Communism would allow the government to determine the value of the product being produced. Then in turn make the economic structure safer for the workers. To do this society would have to abandon capitalism, which we are currently living under. In capitalism there is no government control. The markets are controlled by the humans, which determine the value of the products. Since there is no government control the workers (proletariat) have no stability. Marx said the social movement would have to start with a theory, then once the people accepted that theory there could be a social movement. Marx spoke of the ways society should be that of communism, but he never really says how we are suppose to get there. To Marx society was more than just people; it is the whole society that matters. Then it is the forces within society that shape who we are. (more…)

This is a dissertation chapter on Women:

Since the first American colonies existed, women have been characterized for having less civil rights with less career opportunities than men. For many years women have been fighting to enjoy their own rights. Women have raised their voices to demand their full civil and political rights. Women have had to overcome many economic, political, and even social obstacles created by men just to be treated in an equal way in the American society.

Generally, the women’s lives have been characterized for being women full of struggles, obstacles and pain. That is why women decided to demand their own rights through their vote. Which their vote will symbolize the expression of their rights and voices in the face of the American society. The first obstacle that women had to overcome was to get their right to vote. It was an obstacle because women without vote married women did not have a legal voice in the face of the government. During the early history of the United States, a man owned his wife and children as they were any material of his possessions. For example if a poor man decided to drop his children to the poorhouse, the children’s mother was unable to defense her children (Women’s International Center 2). (more…)
